Genocide of the Roma
Raising awareness of the genocide of the Roma is critical to countering antigypsyism/anti-Roma discrimination.
Our work looks at the prejudice towards Roma and Sinti before, during and after the Second World War, and demonstrates the link between the history of persecution and the present situation of Roma communities.
2 August marks the International Remembrance Day of the Genocide of the Roma, in memory of all Sinti and Roma murdered in Nazi-occupied Europe.
The IHRA’s interdisciplinary Committee on the Genocide of the Roma highlights the prejudice towards Roma and Sinti before, during, and after the Second World War, and demonstrates the link between this history and the situation of many Roma communities today. Its experts develop resources that strengthen education, remembrance, and research on the Roma genocide.
